Comodoro

Experience the beauty of the beachfront when you stay at the Comodoro Hotel in Torrenova. You are quite close to Palma Nova Beach, Golf Fantasia, Poniente Golf Club, Western Water Park, and Pirates Adventure Show, so you won’t be bored for things to do beyond the hotel. On-site, you have an outdoor pool, a bar, a restaurant, and even a bar attached to the outdoor pool. You have to be 18 or older in order to book a reservation at this property, and all self-parking services on-site are complimentary, in the event that you own or are renting a vehicle to get around with.

Hotel style alternative to City resorts in old Havana
Situated what I'd consider an objective distance outside the sites of old Havana. There are about 4 come back bus shuttles a day however I think the last review was a little optimistic saying it was only 15 minutes. In my honest opinion more 20-25 minutes and if you miss or do not want to wait for the shuttle it'll be a 10 cuc cab. Which can really Mount up. As with last reviewer, we stayed in a villa and this undeniably was the way to go, they were excellent. The resort was pretty peaceful while we were there. Most personnel were pleasent but to be truthful the personnel in the pizza and pasta place looked as though they really couldnt be bothered! Brunch was weird to say the least. In the week we sayed we had spaghetti and meat balls one morning, veal steaks another morning, oriental chicken the next. Really weird definitely! Its a pleasant place however pretty far out in a peaceful area however if you would like a unwinding hotel to stay its excellent however you will get fed up of the cuisine if you do not want to Travel for other cuisine.

Great price
My fiancé and I stayed here for one night at the end of our vacation and were happy with our selection! It's and older resort however can not really fault it for the money. We had lunch in the pizza and pasta place in the resort and the meals were very impressive and really well priced! The only con is that it is about 10 minutes out of community, however other then that excellent spot to unwind around the swimming pool.

Great setting for Havana Sightseeing if you also wish to relax by the swimming pool
I have read horrendous testimonials about this resort and I was really concerned about what to anticipate. Luckily I was really genuinely amazed. I really do not think that his resort deserves such a terrible testimonials. If somebody is anticipating a six star amenities and service, so go and pay for it. This resort was pristine bang for the buck. Check in: fast and smoooth. It is correct that lobby did not smile, however I didn't come to make friends with reception check-in employees anyway. She answered all my questions and that was what I needed. Villa: quite neat and roomy. We had two bedrooms, sitting suite leading to the patio and the swimming pool and large washroom. There was mini bar, 2 TV's, and air conditioning in each bedroom and sitting suite worked perfectly. We didn't spot any insects, but if you do, it is regular as you are in Tropical Country and doors and windows weren't sealed. I'm sure you find intermittent fly or mosquito in your house in Europe or Canada. Brunch: a ton of selection. I'm vegan and I had no issue to pick something. Breads were absolutely amazing. A ton of fruit, juices. Pools: we found some dirt in the swimming pool however it was overall leaves from the Palm trees around the swimming pools. We didn't see any rats, Maybe thanks to the cats who were wondering around. The whole swimming pool area was really unwinding and peaceful. Setting: I found the setting of Comodoro villas much better than setting of other resorts which were expected to be in the center of Havana and which we were offered to upgrade to. We're happy, we didn't. You could effortlessly get to Havana by cab or by jump on/off shuttle, which we did. It cost us 5 cuc each and you could use the ticket for the whole day and jump on/off in one of the numerous stops. Busses run every Half an hour, however be patient as cubans aren't known for their time keeping. Shore: it wasn't the most pleasant shore, however it was usable and as we were leaving to Varadero hotel from Comodoro we didn't spend time near the ocean. If I came there for a shore vacation I'd be let down with the shore. However I suspect that most folks come there to see Havana and then they move on elsewhere as we did. As a whole the experience was excellent and I would endorse this place to anybody. Just do not have unreasonable anticipations. At the end of the day you get what you pay for.

Excellent pools, peaceful & pleasant for short stay
Stayed here early May 2007. Our villa was really pleasant, spotless and pleasant even though at night we saw lots of big insects in the outdoors passageways leading to the villas however saw none inside. The pools were awesome, spotless and peaceful. Did not experience the amusement as here only 2 nights. Brunch was great however really busy. Personnel everywhere were either warm and courteous or very surly - with nothing in between, however this appears to be the same throughout the Island. This resort is convenient for Havana (old Havana is a must see). Its worth noting that everybody here expects a gratuity and can be quite insistant, particularly porters - who accept any money. We ate one time in the a-la- carte restaurant which was alright however nothing great. Service was apathetic until it came time to pay the bill! ) A caution about towels! - check the number of towels you have been provided on the last day - resorts May attempt to charge for apparently "missing" towels. English is widely spoken to varying degrees however an ability to understand spanish is an edge. Spanish speakers certainly get better service. As a whole - a pleasant stay close to Havana - we'd consider staying here again.

Great hotel to stay
We visited the Comodoro for two days on a trip and found it to be a charming place. We were in the upper floor of a villa, looking over the winding pool. The rooms were roomy and spotless. Meals were good and the amusement excellent. We had an amazing time, getting up on the stage and participating in the performance.

Really charming resort
Stayed at this resort for 9 nights (b+b) back in May after booking the vacation with theholidayplace. Ca. The 'villa' suite (first floor flat) was amazing. Really really big spotless condo with 2 balconies, large Bed, mini bar, satellite television and effective air conditioning. The resort appeared mostly peaceful, however this was more than likely because of the time of year. There are a lot of pools on site about 7 we counted I think and would always have one of these to ourselves in the late afternoon, which was charming. The loungers are really pleasant! The shore area is a small guy-made shore area however we did not use it. The brunch was not especially excellent always consisting of the previous-nights cafeteria cuisine, but the tropical fruit and pastries were great. I'd suggest the cooked to order eggs. We ate in both the on-site mediterranean and barbecue restaurants and had lovely meals with accommodating service at a really justifiable price. The drinks/beer were awesome and also well priced. Additionally there is a 24-hour poolside sandwich station (not loud) on site serving refreshments such as hamburgers, sandwiches and ice creams. This was a god send upon arrival starving at 3 AM after a Long plane trip! I'd suggest a visit to the El alijibe restaurant in Miramar - a short cab lift from the resort as the cuisine there was excellent. Additionally there is an on-site grocery store which is useful for water and so on. Both the front desk employees and cubanacan reps were really supportive and accommodating. We exchanged our £ into cucs a few times at reception, no issues. Through the cubanacan reps we reserved some tours - a Half day classic vehicle trip of Havana, a 1 excursion to the mogotes/pinar del Rio and another 2 day over night tour to the villages in the center of Cuba, such as Trinidad and Santa clara. All the vacations were great and well organized. We also got our tickets for the excellent Tropicana performance from the reps, which is undeniably worth a view. The resort is about a 15 minute trip into the center of Havana either by cab (10-12 cucs or£5-6) or the free resort courtesy coach which left the resort at 9 AM, 11 AM and 9 PM (I think from memory). We'd take the bus into community and then get a cab back. I'd suggest going into Havana at night for a meal as it is really atmospheric with music playing in all the bars. You could get the 9 PM coach in and get the 11 PM coach back and still have time for a meal and a wander/drink. While the resort is not in the center of Havana, the vacation in along 5th street and the malecon is charming and being able to cool down in a selection of pools after a hot days site seeing is worth the 15 min trip back to the resort without a doubt. The City is really hot and a little bit vehicle fumey so it was excellent to escape after a Long hot day. I'd undeniably stay at this resort again.

Amazing personnel
Even though the resort block is not in tip-top state it is okay. The resort is a cab lift away from the center of Havana-ask to go Via the malecon! The breakfasts are awesome (we did not have an evening meal while there). The greatest thing about the resort was the personnel though-they were all amazing and went out of their way to assist us, even after we would left and came back to Havana at the end of our stay (we attempted to book back in however they were full and had to stay somewhere else in a poorer alternative. In spite of this, they let us use their interwebs and printing amenities for a small charge-printers are difficult to find in Cuba. We'd surely return.

Gets better each time!
At our third time in Havana, we again stayed for a few of days at this resort. To my surprise I found that they truly are working Hard on an even better experience. Everything was spotless, the simpatica housekeeper did a great job, the brunch was okay, the personal was fun and they try difficult to improve various types of things: the block, Garden and so on. This is resort is really well located to start your first visits to Habana. It's peaceful, there are a ton of possibilities to unwind, to eat and folks who can help you to arrange your tours to Habana and itineraries to other spots of the Country. The suites are roomy, washroom is alright and security too. Noone can sneak in. Quite sure the cubanacan Comodoro personnel and workers are doing an amazing job to satisfy their visitors. Special thanks to miss. Yoanis who even called my belgian cell number to assist me! (so when someone was disrespectful on you, perhaps you gotta ask yourself how your stance was).

Awesome bang for the buck.
I have read awful testimonials about this resort and I was really concerned about what to anticipate. Luckily I was really genuinely amazed. I really do not think that his resort deserves such terrible testimonials. If somebody is anticipating a six star amenities and service, so go and pay for it. This resort was pristine bang for the buck. Yes its a tiny exhausted and could do with some general maintenance however as a base it is awesome. You do have to ask for kettle, mugs and so on (Due to them being stolen they're Now not left in the suites) our suite / condo was charming spotless and spacious. Great air conditioning. Pool bar awesome and mojito's even better :op the whole property was really quite (just as we like it) the main swimming pool was a tiny dusty / filthy however so warm! Again a lack of general maintenance. The property is a great base to sightsee from. Top tip get the open top shuttle into Havana only 5 cucs to use all day as on several occasions as you want. They drop off and pick up about 100 meters form the resort. Cheaper than taxi's plus you get to see some of Havana as well. Brunch is stellar. A lot of selection, hot, cool, fruit, breads, cakes, cheeses, meats, eggs done all ways all you could want. Top tip get to the restaurant early for a great table. We only stayed two nights and had no issues.

Just returned
Have just returned home from Cuba, we spent our last 4 nights in the Comodoro resort, we had a lovel villa yes we did have bugs in the washroom, do not we occasionally get them in our Homes in the summer! Perhaps the place does need a new lick of paint, all the personnel were really supportive. It was no hardship being 15 min from old community Havana as you could get the free resort shuttle there and back or jump on the t 2 City shuttle trip for 5 ps which stops outside the resort, would come back here another time

Faded glory.
Our company unexpectedly stayed at the Comodoro for about 2 weeks in August 2011, so we were not quite sure what to precise. In the end, it was just okay. The cafeterias in the dining suite were differed in variety, with many fresh fruit (mangoes, Pineapple, papaya, guava. ) and salads. In the morning, there is an omelette station, and at night, a carving station, where you could often get veal or pork. The meals were great and abundant, even though perhaps a tiny dull for some. Bear in mind you are in Cuba. In fact, I believed the meals were better than at the 4. 5*resort we visited in Varadero. I also enjoyed the Live amusement, which was in the dining suite, front desk bar, and so on., and found it much more subdued and fun than the noisy, very commercialized amusement in Varadero. The suites differed in size and 'class' exceedingly (from 1 single bedroom with 2 double beds, to a 3 bedroom/2 washroom room), however they were all spotless. I favoured the upstairs suites, preferably facing away from the 24 hour bar. air conditioning works really well, and each bedroom has a remote control. A few cool and spotless pools, and just a really small shore area, which is to be anticipated as Havana isn't really a shore destination. Some stray cats on the landscaping, however no dogs, as you will find in old Havana. I'd certainly come back here another time.

Favourable surprise
After reading many testimonials I was really scared of this resort. What surprise! If you would like to combine visiting of Havana with rest near the ocean and swim - resort commodoro is amazing selection. Own secluded oceanfront with Access to sea, a ton of swiming pools (all were open). Direct Access to Havana by cab (always waiting in the front of the resort). Service suite daily, suite equipments as we anticipated, great restaurants with life music daily throughout brunch and supper. We anticipated: millipede, bugs, moscitos, lack of hot water or even water at all, not working Air state, wc out of order, lack of bathroom tissue, lot of rubbish, terrible odour and so on. Nothing of the sort. I can suggest this holet. It was amazing vacation. We stayed in a lot of resorts 4 and 5 stars in eu before so my opinion in this case is realiable.

Needs update
As with a lot of resorts in Cuba, maintenance is an issue. Windows are not often tidied and small things never get fixed. Stayed two nights on a trip and found the suites sufficient and the cuisine really nice. Sadly the cubans appear to think that really noisy amusement at supper is a great thing however we didn't appreciate it. Have to mention the winding pool in the condos next door to which you have Access. This is awesome and really odd. Just and also the less said about the seafront the better.

Tranquillo time
The professional and courteous personnel gave us a warm welcome. They were never far away and definitely made our stay more than unwinding. Few visitors around, so no waiting for service. Excellent brunch, particularly the 'omelette cook'. Villa was pleasant, with spotless linen daily. Only one little con is the isolated Seaside of the resort, so no simple walking at the Seaside.

Many pools, great cuisine - not a beautiful area
The villas are spotless and clean and we were furtunate to have the use of one of the numerous pools to ourselves as the other bunglaows were not reserved. The central swimming pool was always busy so we did not bother and we only had 4 days in Havana so we wanted to get into the City. It's around 10 cuc one way - cabs are continuously outdoors - however it is a pain for nights/days out. A Sightseeing shuttle goes past the resort and runs until around 9 PM and that takes you into community also (9 cuc). We had a bite at the pool bar, the brunch suite and at the mediterranean during our time and all the meals were pleasant. Beverages are averagely priced, and there is always a great conventional cuban band on in the bar by the front desk. Bugs are atrocious in the suites - use all the protection you can! The area around the resort is safe and there are two restaurants and small grocery store right nextdoor.

Great setting
The resort is really well situated, few shops, markets, and an excellent scenery of the ocean of North Havana litoral, I visited with my wifey a few times throughout the recents years, is a choice to see and enjoy how traveler guests and really cubans folks living togheter, personnel most of times are really professional. I personally found this resort like great choices to unwind and actualize my vision of the Real Havana City life.

Bungalo the way to go!
Just returned from my 3rd stay at the Comodoro 14 days prior, taking a bungalo for the additional money is totally worth it. The suites are two times the size with a small kitchenette to use and a living suite with extra television. I love the setting of this Property. It is close to a galleria with a supermarket and everything else you'd need. It has two outdoors patios that serves excellent cuisine and inexpensive beverages, next to it is Melia Habana which has wireless internet and a wonderful pool that you can go to which is a little bit more pleasant then the comordoro. The comordoro serves awesome cuisine at the swimming pool side restaurant. The restaurant serves awesome pizza and pasta close to the main foyer. You don't need the all-inclusive as there are a lot of inexpensive restaurants to pick from close by. I have read the other testimonials and these folks do not know what they're speaking about. This is an excellent Property, if you would like 5 star then go stay at the Melia Cohiba for two times the money however why would you when a cab lift is 5 pesos and you can enjoy the Property, pool and restaurants for free. If you are single then this resort is a great site to bring back the ladies, security will want a 25 dollar tip and you are all set to go for the night. Property is in the Miramar area and is the place to be and close to all the party scene.

Excellent service, excellent pool and awesome cuisine
This was our third vacation to Cuba in the last year and I am happy to say that we have at last found a resort that we can come back to. Upon arrival at the resort our suite was not ready but the resort could give us a different suite to stay in for the first evening and moved us to hour king size bed villa the following day. This suite (790) was enormous, it was way to large for 2 folks however we really liked the space. The suite was like a small condo including a small kitchenette with mini bar and double hot plate. There are no dishes so if you would like to eat in the suite, I'd recommend a fast vacation to the supermarket to purchase some inexpensive plates, plates and silverware before you leave on your holiday. Do not' want to cook? No issue, the refreshment cafe is open 24 hours and the most costly item on that menu is $5. 95. The suite also had 2 balconies, one off the main room and one off the bedroom. There is no necessity to purchase an electricity converter as ther are outlets for 220 and 110 throughout the suite. The suite could have used a few repairs around the shower however we had hot water constantly and that is what really matters. The breakfast place is average, however if you are not to finicky you can leave with a full tummy of different fruit, omellets and a selection of sliced meats. Want the greatest meal in all of Habana? Have the steak with mushroom sauce at the mediterranean retaurant. We ate supper here our 3rd night in the town. The bill for 2 appies, 2 suppers, a full bottle of wine, confectionary and tip was a mere $55. 00 including tip. Some supportive hints: Tip chambermaid $1. 00 a day Rack up a tap at the refreshment cafe and tip a few dollars when you pay the tab If you leave a credit card deposit to charge to your suite make sure they set it up accurately immediately, it involves 2 divisions of the resort and there can be some disconnect at first The resort is located a tiny further out, a cab to old Habana will run you about 7 pesos, but the experience at the resort is totally worth it. It is essential to note that there are certain things that you just have to accept when vacationing to Cuba, some of things include, dull cuisine, filthy streets, outdated block and Hard water. This resort is no exception, but the service far surpasses any that I have ever experienced in Cuba and everybody goes out of their way to make your stay a marvelous one. This will Now be our resort of selection when vacationing to Cuba. One other thing. Rent a vehicle or splurge on a cab to take you to Playa St Maria. This is the most outstanding shore in Cuba if you would like a upbeat fun day where you can hang out with residents and travelers alike. Bring your towels (and some bathroom tissue), you will thank me for this bit of tip, a tiny bit of cash for lunch and beverages (lunch varies from $7 to $12) and you will have an excellent day. You May have to turn your eye away from seeing a few younger cuban females talking up the older male travelers, however it's not evident and hey tic - this is Cuba.

A great start to the vacation
We visited the Comodoro resort for 3 nights as part of our 'Discover Cuba' trip. Its cuban star rating is 4, however kuoni describe it as more of a 3 star, which we thought was more correct. The resort is comprised of a main block with 4 floors of standard suites and 2 sets of low-rise exceptional suites in the landscaping by the pools (even though one set of suites seems to be fully out of use). We had heard about some rather terrible testimonials about this resort before we went to Cuba and so were uncertain of what to anticipate. Our verdict was that it was not the greatest resort we had ever stayed at, however that it was sufficient for a short stay. The suite was moderately spotless, even though it did have a little bit of a strange odour and the towels were not as spotless as they could've been. We did have a patio though, with a partial ocean view and the washroom was quite big with great pressure of the water in the shower. We could hire the safe deposit bin for a small charge. The resort has 3 restaurants, mediterranean, specialty and the main cafeteria restaurant. We were on Half board and so were only able to eat in the cafeteria, if we had wanted to have a meal in either of the other two then we'd have had to pay full price. The cuisine in the buffet was actually okay and always excellent, including a pasta cook and some really pleasant puddings. There are some minimal problems to do with beverages service and cuisine quality, plus at busy times visitors now and again had to table share. We only caught one of the amusement performances, Due to jet lag, which consisted of Tropicana style dancing and singing. It reminded me a little bit of the eurovision song competition - not my idea of a great night out, however then again we never anticipate much from the amusement when we go abroad! As a whole, this was not the greatest resort that we have ever stayed in, however it was sufficient for what we needed, and definitely a lot better that some of the other resorts that we experienced.

Pleasant and hospitable resort
When it comes to cuban resorts, tourists should know that some who post testimonials (both favourable and unfavourable) have a political or competitive agenda. I do not have such an agenda. As a whole the resort was spotless, elegant, and pleasant. On our first stay, all went well. On our third visit throughout this vacation, one of the sink faucets leaked a tiny throughout use, however otherwise the suite was well upkept. There was a pan cake iron, a panini press, a microwave, and a small mini bar in the kitchenette area. There is no laundry suite for Self-service laundry. You can either pay the resort rate, or organize for your housekeeper to take care of the laundry herself for most of the price listed by the resort. They truly appreciate the extra income and did a great job washing and pressing the handful of things I had washed. That said, if you would like to save some cash, bring simple-to-dry things and clean them by hand. Just bare in mind that it is *really* muggy, so things take a while to dry. The brunch and supper cafeteria made it simple for our company to stay together throughout meals. The abundant tropical fruit (Mango, Pineapple, guava, occasionally apple or strawberry) added a fascinating touch to every meal. There were a lot of different confectionary choices including cake, pastries, and ice cream. Very impressive Live music (soft enough that supper a chat was still pleasant) also added a high-end element to the dining experience. The supper part of the cafeteria was variable, occasionally there were awesome dishes, occasionally the supper was a little average. Rabbit one night was Hard and chewy, but the next week it was tender and tasty. It's more than likely great to have the cafeteria choice for the first few days while you pick up your way around, however after 7 days the variety appeared a little bit monotonous. After your first few days, go and explore some of the paladars (exclusive restaurants) that are in the neighbourhood. Many seafood choices which I did not try (octopus, calamari, trout, a selection of different fish). For the noche cubana (Wednesday night) they roasted a suckling pig, and for the next week, they had crab. The noche cubana event includes Live music and a short cultural performance. It was decent, however nowhere as decent as the music you can find in old Havana (part of the dissatisfaction was that it was *way* too noisy). Because of the drought Cuba is presently experiencing, all however the central swimming pool is closed. That said, the swimming pool that is open is rather big: it stretches around the bar and next to a few villa-blocks. It was really rejuvenating after a Long, sweaty day in the cuban heat. There are only 3 computers available for interwebs connectivity, however often folks are only on for several minutes. It fees 4 cuc per 30 minutes, and is lots quick for email, however not really quick enough for google maps. There is a souvenir store that sells a selection of cuban traveler stuff and a desk for finding out about activities close by. Miramar where the resort is situated is sort of far from old Havana where there are many stores, cafes and traveler-oriented activities. That said, it's only a 15 min traveler taxi lift (10 cuc) or 30 cuban taxi lift (1 cuc) from old Havana, so most music venues are quite close by.
