Kohly Bosque Reviews

Excellent resort and not too far from the main part of community
My sister and I visited this resort with trepidation after some of the testimonials that were written. Well it was excellent. Spotless/beds excellent/brunch alright. Coffee was great from the bar. Personnel really helpful and supportive. English was excellent (as in comparison to our Spanish). I would endorse this resort to anybody not anticipating 5 star. Request a patio so you can clean and hang clothing out there.

Excellent resort setting
We stayed here five days throughout the college week in April. We enjoyed their tasty cuisine, their selection of fruit, juices and fish. The suite was spotless and pleasant. The personnel was really courteous and welcoming. We enjoyed "boris" client service in the lobby. Throughout the day they have a lot of activities (dancing, dancing pool activities at the kholy resort ( their partner). My adolescent sons enjoyed the swimming pool and the gym at the Kohly resort. As a whole its a great site to stay. The neighbourhood area is really save and calm.

Thumbs up
I just returned from Havana and all of the resorts to the town centre were full or too costly so I stayed out in the burbs at the Kohly for several nights. The resort was spotless, safe and the meals were amazingly great. As soon as I found the right road it was only about 10 min. To to the town centre. It cost 60 cuc's per night for 2 adults including brunch cafeteria. I would endorse this resort

Kohly. !
Myself and my friend stayed in resort Kohly for several nights as a base for some Sightseeing around Havana. I am unsure what rating the resort is however id say its standard. The resort suites were of a decent size with 2 double beds, sky television, air conditioning, and great showers! The swimming pool, store, interwebs and bar amenities are okay, nothing great however spotless and pleasent to use. The brunch left a lot to be wanted, but for the most part Havana cuisine appeared to be of poor quality. Always it looked like left over cuisine especially veg from the night before however it perhaps the differences in nationalities as to the selection of brunch. Request an omlette or egg and some toast and cake and there you have Half a English brunch! Avoid the bar quick meal cuisine by the swimming pool as very little selection ham and cheese with everything! And always appeared to be really low in stock drink wise- however inexpensive! There is somewhat pizza place next door which is edible or a 5 minute cab lift along the malecon will take you into the center of old Havana. Allthough the resort is not centrally situated the cabs are so inexpensive it does not matter where speaking a£2 at the most and the motorists will even wait for you now and again while you eat! If you just want somewhere to rest as a base or sit by the swimming pool this is the place for you. There is nothing remotely incorrect with the resort just not 4 star! Havana is excellent so much to see so do it on a budget and spend more money on rum and cigars!

Excellent as a cheap base to do siteseeing
Really plain and easy. Its spotless and its safe. It serves a cafeteria style brunch which is mediocre just as other cafeteria style meals in Cuba. So in other words it will fill the spot, and allthough it is average, you won't get ill from eating it. Coffee is dull, but the 24 hour sandwich bar makes great latte and cuban coffee. Say hi to the ladies sitting at the refreshment cafe, they're quite courteous. There is a pasta/ pizza place right on site which provides okay and cheap cuisine. No shore, only a pool. Cabs are at the front which will take you to old Havana within about 10 minutes. About it fees 8-10 cuc however if you hail a taxi from the road (panataxi) you May get there for 5 cuc. The pinar del Rio, Los vinales vacation is awesome. You can buy a trip from reception. As a whole the personnel are friendly, even though you May come across a strange one that appears a tiny disgruntled. However I did not come there for them anyways so it does not matter really. I like this place since it is in a residential area and it isn't your common traveler trap kind of a hotel, more like a Condo style condo block.

The personnel make all the difference!
I visited resort El Bosque for a month while learning in Cuba. While the resort itself is rather standard in its decor and appearance, the personnel were marvelous. Courteous, supportive and really professional. El Bosque is a smaller resort with less than 100 suites. All of the suites were spotless, they have interwebs available and the bar is excellent. The meals are honestly excellent. I guess the serious shortcoming of the resort is it's setting in almendares makes it a little bit far from to the town centre Havana but the walks and vehicle rides with residents compensated for it. Another fascinating aspect of this resort is it doubles as a 'hospital' for venezuelans who are in Cuba recieving medical treatment for vision issues. This one one of the only spots in Cuba that I did not feel made an effort to independent the cubans from the travelers. My cuban friends happily stayed in the resort and could sit and eat supper and drink with us.

Finest little resort in Havana
Note that a few of the testimonials on this page are for resort Kohly, not for resort El Bosque. The two resorts are close to each other and owned by the same company. I have never stayed at the resort Kohly however I heard that it's not great. I have stayed at the resort El Bosque two times, and was satisfied both stays. The suites were spotless, the beds pleasant (odd in Cuba! ) and the personnel was courteous and supportive. They all knew english. It's not too far from the viazul shuttle station, the neighbourhood is peaceful and safe, and you are on the River, which is a large Tropical Park, so you breathe spotless Air. The prices are justifiable. Finest of all, in my honest opinion, it does not feel like you are in Havana. It feels like the countryside. Of course, if you would like party scene and jiniteras, this is not the resort for you. My criticisms? The outdoor bar had noisy music until after 12 AM, however after that it was as peaceful. Also one night the resort was full and all the telephone lines were busy, so I could not make a Call.

A peaceful and lovely hotel to stay
We had a lovely stay at El Bosque. The suite wasn't big however sufficient. It was spotless and nicely embellished. The entire resort is newly resurfaced inside and out with warm colors. There is forest behind the resort and a larger Park close by. I wish we had time to wander the area. I had really little interaction with the personnel. Checking in and out went smoothly with pleasant folks. The included brunch was in a cellar area that wasn't lavish however the meals were above mediocre in comparison to what we experienced on the vacation. The coffee was great. While not a lavish place, this is a great base for exploring Habana which met all our needs.

Ruminations on resort and cuisine in Habana
For a budget resort - certainly above mediocre -- we had a suite for 7 nights on the 5th floor, March 28th - April 6th, 2007. It was spotless and clean and the towel and bedspread sculptures daily were a Real treat -along with a small bit of fresh flowers. The performance around the swimming pool is remarkable (only some nights) and throughout the day the main swimming pool was spotless and seats were excellent. Bring a big towel, though! The pizza place on the ground level was amazing and cheap; and the breakfasts in the 2nd floor restaurant were the greatest meal, often, that we had all day. The brunch was a cafeteria style with a cook making eggs and fried eggs, which were excellent. (I notice that other critics protested about brunch however we found it more palatable than a ton of the cuisine in Havana. Just all dull lland dull which we had heard however just didn;t believe. ) There was French style bread (all white) and a toaster -- margarine and cheese at the back of the suite by the bran even though perhaps all gone if you come late! The coffeee was pretty terrible (weak) and the meals were really dull, however that more or less goes for all the cuisine, constantly in Havana, and I suspect alll of Cuba, since we were chastised more tha one time for wanting to add tobasco and informed that it was terrible for us! "it will hurt your liver", it was announced. Anyway, brunch had many fruit, eggs and mystery meat and occasionally vegetables. . . We were pleased daily! Anyway, the resort is amazing, though a taxi lift away from nearly everything. It is cheaper to walk to the main road corner by the bridge and get a Havana cab or panataxi however it is only about one - two peso's cheaper to go to old Havana than using the alright cabs in front of the resort. . . . I feell like we're more than likely the only Canadians to go to Cuba in the winter and not go to the shore! However we had a reallly amazing time walking around Havana, listening to music, speaking to folks, drinking mohitos and daquiris and speaking to habeneros. We did the museums and really see his as a place that works - without capitalism -- difficult to orient yourself if you are a large "consumer" as there is very little to purchase! The resort is only an inexpensive cab lift from most things (and is not too far from the Tropicana though we didn't go since it is over $100 can each to go and beyond our budget! ) however it is bit tiresome to not just be able to "soda back" to the resort for a rest and so on. For us it was worth it for the savings. The greatest restaurant we ate in was El ehibe or ahibe (t is one of the more famous restaurants in Havana, so every taxi driver will know it ) in Miramar. They supply a chicken in orange sauce, an excellent mohito and honestly supply salad with your supper (if you are accustomed to a ton of vegetables- take fibre - I have no idea how vegans eat in Cuba. ) also one day when there were large waves along the malecon (that is how we knew that there were large waves) we went and sat in the bar in the back, outdoors (sort of the shore except there is no shore on the oceanfront) at the commodoro resort in mirmar -- the waves were smashing against the cement dock and the Sun was shining and the garlic shrimp were the greatest thing that we ate in Havana. Have a blast, we plan to return promptly. There is a huge paper shortage in Cuba - take notebooks and pens and also aspirin and tylenol to give away. Many papel hygenica (bathroom tissue) in the resort, however very little in a lot of other spots, or an assistant anticipating a peso to provide it. Folks who were staying at hotels that we met said that they were told a lot for clothing, hats and t-shirts, even though we didn't experience that -- folks were looking for money for pharmaceuticals and loooking for headache remedy - difficult to come by!
Calm and unwinding place close to the lively City
The suite was large with patio looking over nature and cityscape. The setting is great for reaching activities in Havana. The tour guide shuttle has a stop 500-600 yards away, right at the opposite part of Rio almendares; less than eleven short walk from the resort. I used this jump on jump off shuttle and combined transport with Sightseeing. On request they were nice and let me off before the shuttle crossed the bridge over the Rio almendares on the vacation back to Havana, and therby only 3 min walk from El Bosque. The resort is close enough to the old City make the cab vacation bearable for most folks; it is less than 10 kilometers from El Bosque to Parque martires at the other end of the malecon. The standard is easy, however not terrible; you get what you can anticipate for a four star resort in Havana. It is spotless, however could need some small fixes occasionally. Most things worked as it should, and the interwebs is somewhat great at this resort, with wireless internet and also a terminal in the main foyer area, interwebs is a somewhat costly extra service as it is all over where it is availible, only some of the more costly resorts provides it for free. The resort has nothing beside dining suite (only used for the meals) and the 24 h bar in the main foyer, however resort Kohly, belonging to the same group, have pool and other thing that can be used by El bosque's visitors, however it is an eleven-minute walk away. The personnel are supportive, some of them speaks some English, majority of the front desk employees appears to master this foreign language mostly well. To me as a single traveler who wanted a place to unwind after Sightseeing and trips, this resort was close to optimal. It is peaceful and calmed, and it is close enough to the hectic Metropolis. . However I do not think I'd have stayed here with children, it May have been a little bit lame without the amenities to occupy them. The area around the resort is partly residential, with a Park close to the River, there was a playground, however I do not know if it is open also for travelers, or if it belongs to a school or something. Could be worth checking if you are going to stay there with children. I had Half board. Andi wouldn't suggest that. Try one of the restaurants in the town or close by close to the resort instead.
